The Top 10 Benefits of Cardio Kickboxing

 

To be honest, I didn’t think I was going to like boxing or kickboxing. And to be even more honest, when I first started...I DIDN’T!  Soon after Mike and I started dating he took me to a boxing gym upstate. I was nervous. I was self conscious. I kept confusing my right from my left.  However, I made a decision to give it the old grammar school try. Within two classes I was hooked. There is something so gratifying about pounding on a heavy bag or hearing the impact of the long bag as your kicks land.  An hour feels like minutes (which anyone who does cardio on a treadmill or an elliptical knows how long an hour of cardio can feel!). When Mike and I opened our gym six months ago we were determined to offer a better initial experience for our people. We make sure that everyone is provided the coaching they need to be successful from day one.

Because I know that some of you might still be feeling as intimidated as I did or you aren’t sure it’s worth learning something new, I want to share the top 10 benefits of cardio kickboxing with you.

 

 

  1. Reduce Stress: if you feel like you’re not zen enough for yoga, kickboxing is one of the best ways to unleash your frustration and relieve your stress.  Not only do you get to let it all out kicking and punching but kickboxing also helps release your “happy” brain chemicals: serotonin and dopamine. These chemicals help you feel happier and more relaxed.

  2. Learn Self Defense: Kickboxing provides some of the most realistic self-defense techniques. Learning how to strike, kick,  knee, and perform elbow strikes will give you the basics if you ever find yourself in an unsafe situation.

  3. Burn Mega Calories: Each class burns anywhere between 600-800 Calories for an average size woman (this number changes based on your weight and effort during class). Kickboxing is a fast paced, high energy class that will burn mega calories during class and leave your metabolism soaring.

Boost Energy: Between the high energy of the class, the increase of endorphins (a hormone that increases energy and makes you feel good), and better sleep quality from moving your body, kickboxing is will give you a major energy boost!   7. Improved Coordination: Kickboxing will improve your coordination as it trains your brain to react, aim, and utilize both your right and left sides.

  8. Cardiovascular Endurance: Kickboxing will make your heart and lungs stronger improving your overall cardiovascular health and endurance. A strong cardiovascular system will allow your body to absorb oxygen more efficiently and keep your body healthier for longer!

  9. Get Stronger: Yes, you will build muscle and get stronger with kickboxing!! The impact from punching and kicking the bags as well as the conditioning exercises that complements a cardio kickboxing workout will improve your strength and tone your muscle.
